Trav and Gary sit right next to each other at NI, just like they did in the Averna Atlanta office. As expected, they get into random conversations and Gary mentioned that he was going to a crawfish boil at a place called Uncle Billy’s Brew & Que. At some point, he said that crawfish are “effing amazing” so Trav was ready to dive into a few pounds of those little critters. Plus, Uncle Billy’s brews their own beer, so that definitely made it worth it
I’m not sure if the “boil” is really associated with Uncle Billy’s or if they just host it because they only do it a few times all year.
Because it was Trav’s first time and eating them requires a certain finesse, Gary was showing him the proper techniques. When Trav asked about what to do with the head, the conversation took a hysterical turn and we were all cracking up. Unfortunately, Amy was in Atlanta for business so she missed out on the giggle-fest that made me feel like a middle school kid all over again.
Like a lot of the other restaurants we’ve visited here, they have great beer selection at Uncle Billy’s. I think it’s safe to say that my favorite style of beer is the Hefeweizen. I haven’t had one that I didn’t like. Now, it’s my go-to choice when we’re out and there are new beers to try.
The crawfish came with corn and potatoes and boy, were they spicy as hell. DAMN! The corn was definitely overcooked because it was gummy but I ate it anyway. The potato was fab and the crawfish were crawfish-y.
Overall, it was good, but not awesome like a Low Country Boil at my dad’s house. I want to go back and try food off their menu because I’m sure it r00lz.
